Air Operations in Afghanistan
Asmar, Regional Command - East
U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrews, U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and U.S. Air force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots supported friendly ground forces. Ground controllers passed coordinates for enemy positions to B-1B aircrews, who released multiple precision-guided munitions and eliminated threats to friendly forces. F-15E aircrews and F-16 pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, and shows of presence to deter further enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers and ground controllers called the engagements successful.
Balocan, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy fire when sporadic enemy activity was reported by friendly ground units.
Konduz, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch, helicopter escort and close air support for friendly ground forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, and a show of presence to stop enemy fire and deter any further enemy activity. Ground controllers declared all the actions successful when enemy attacks ceased.
Almar, RC-SW
U.S Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy action when ground forces reported taking enemy fire. Aircrews then conducted a strafing run and dropped precision-guided munitions against the enemy position to deter further enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful when enemy fire ceased.
Mazar, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots and U.S Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces and a Coalition convoy. The pilots and aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares released, to deter enemy fire against the convoy and then to deter enemy action against a Coalition vehicle that encountered an improvised explosive device. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when the vehicle was recovered without further incident.
Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy that encountered an improvised explosive device. Aircrews conducted a show of presence at the convoy location. Later, aircrews released precision-guided munition on an enemy fighting position to eliminate a threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no further enemy activity was observed.
Gardez, RC-S
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. While on station, they were tasked to eliminate an enemy vehicle, which was a confirmed threat to friendly forces, utilizing strafing runs.
Gereshk, RC-SW
U.S. air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter a potential enemy forces threat. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when no enemy activity was observed.

U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering over 228,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
