6/8/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 07, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Asmar, Regional Command - East
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces. Ground controllers passed coordinates for enemy positions to the aircrew and pilots, who released precision-guided munitions and eliminated threats to friendly forces. Joint terminal attack controllers called the engagements successful.

Parmakan, RC-W
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots and U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Pilots and operators coordinated with Coalition Joint terminal attack controllers to deter enemy action. When enemy forces were observed utilizing caves and a treeline position during attacks on friendly forces, pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs then released precision-guided munitions against enemy positions. The enemy positions were destroyed and the attacks ceased. The operators observed a hidden enemy vehicle and released a missile against the target, which destroyed the enemy vehicle. All actions were deemed successful.

Chahar Bagh, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for Coalition and friendly forces. Pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs against an enemy position when insurgents were observed massing for a possible attack. The engagement eliminated a threat to friendly forces. Coalition aircrews conducted a show of force over a concentration of insurgents who were massing and about to attack friendly ground forces. Ground controllers declared all the actions successful when no enemy attacks occurred.

Lashkar Gah, RC-SW
U.S Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews, U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews and pilots conducted shows of force, one with flares launched, to deter enemy action when ground forces reported taking enemy fire. Enemy fire ceased briefly and when more enemy fire broke out, the F-15E aircrews made strafing runs to deter further enemy action. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.

Qal-E-Naw, RC-W
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots and U.S Air Force MQ-1B operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces at a hilltop position, firing on friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy position, which was destroyed. The F-16C pilots observed enemy forces, with weapons, and released a precision-guided munition to destroy the enemy position. This was followed by shows of force to deter any further enemy actions. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.

Bagram, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces patrol. The aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter and break contact with anti-Afghan forces. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when no further enemy action occurred.

Kandahar, RC-S
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, which ground controllers declared successful.

Oruzgan, RC-S
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy forces activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful.

Tarin Kowt, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots and aircrews coordinated with Joint terminal attack controllers to deter enemy action. Coalition aircrews released precision-guided munitions and A-10 pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs against enemy positions and enemy vehicles to eliminate threats to friendly forces. The strafing runs were determined successful.

Farah, RC-W
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force that ground controllers declared successful.

Gardez, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The aircrew observed enemy troops in an ambush position and conducted a show of force to deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Kunar Abad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces during a town hall meeting. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy action as friendly forces left the meeting. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Faryab, RC-N
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter anti-Coalition forces activity. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful when no enemy action occurred.

Airlift Action

Farah Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 31,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province, RC-E
U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces and dropping leaflets throughout the province.

Helmand Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
