6/7/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 04, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Lashkar Gah, RC- South West
U.S. Air Force A-10 thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a strafing run to suppress enemy fire against friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.
Later, U. S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted an effective show of force with flares.
Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly convoy. Pilots conducted a show of force when friendly ground forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the action successful when enemy fire ceased and anti-Afghan forces were observed leaving the area.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter anti-Afghan forces activity. Ground controllers confirmed the show of force successful.
Kandahar, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy forces actions. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when no enemy action occurred.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces fighting position. Aircrews released precision-guided munitions against confirmed coordinates for an enemy fighting position when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. The enemy fighting position was destroyed and ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Surkhabad, RC-SW
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces during a military operation. Coalition aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy action during the operation, which ground controllers determined successful.
Airlift Action
Farah Province, RC-W
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering 192,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Oruzgan Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aicrew and U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-airdrop missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 105,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
