Air Operations in Afghanistan
Washir, Regional Command - West
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Enemy forces were observed in vicinity of a cave entrance so A-10 pilots released precision-guided munitions against the cave entrance to eliminate the use of the cave by enemy forces. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions successful.
Monari, RC-E
U.S. Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces stop and engage friendly forces with small-arms fire and released missiles against enemy positions to suppress enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.
Zirani, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, a friendly-forces convoy and a medical evacuation. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter any enemy action in the area. Ground controllers declared the action successful.
Shahidan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Pilots conducted shows of presence to deter enemy fire during a medical evacuation. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no enemy activity was reported.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported taking enemy sniper fire, pilots released precision-guided munitions against enemy-occupied buildings on a hilltop. Enemy fire ceased with the destruction of enemy positions. Ground controllers confirmed all actions were successful.
Balocan, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. The aircrew conducted shows of presence to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of presence successful.
Remak, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful.
Konduz, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy action when a vehicle with suspicious personnel was observed in the vicinity of a known enemy fighting position. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful.
Bari Kowt, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Airlift Action
Farah Province, RC-W
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering 148,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Logar Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Logar Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 24,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Day Kundi Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Day Kundi Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Oruzgan Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 71,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
