Air Operations in Afghanistan
Chahar Bagh, Regional Command - South
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces foot patrol. The patrol reported taking enemy fire. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, followed by a strafing run. Ground controllers called the engagement successful when enemy forces broke contact.
U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported enemy fire, aircrews conducted shows of force followed with strafing runs against an enemy position. Enemy fire ceased and joint terminal attack controllers called the strafing runs successful.
Kandahar, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Pilots coordinated with Coalition Joint terminal attack controllers to eliminate an enemy position firing against Coalition forces. Pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs against the enemy position and enemy fire ceased. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagement successful.
Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy action, which ground controllers declared successful.
Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted shows of force to deter anti-Afghan forces activity when the convoy reported taking enemy fire. Later, more shows of force, with a flare launched, were conducted to deter further enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when enemy fire ceased.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for an friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force over the convoy after it encountered an improvised explosive device. Ground controllers confirmed the show of force was successful.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan forces activity . Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity when friendly ground forces observed enemy activity on a ridgeline. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Shindand, RC-W
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force that ground controllers declared successful.

Oruzgan Province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 128,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
