6/4/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 03, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Gereshk, Regional Command - South West
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots and U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for Coalition and friendly forces. Coalition forces reported taking enemy fire and A-10 pilots made cannon-fire strafing runs against enemy positions, which ended enemy fire. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions successful. Later, F/A-18F aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, that ground controllers determined successful.

Kandahar, RC-SW
U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force and strafing run against an enemy position to suppress enemy fire against friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.

Balocan, RC-S
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Farah, RC-W
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots released precision-guided munitions against an enemy vehicle followed by cannon fire strafing runs against an enemy position. The vehicle and enemy position were destroyed. Ground controllers confirmed all actions were successful.

Ali Kheyl, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces ground patrol and convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan forces actions. Aircrews also conducted a show of presence over the convoy. Ground controllers declared the show of force and show of presence were successful.

Lashkar Gah, RC-W
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, which ground controllers declared successful.

Monari, RC-E
U.S. Navy F/A-18E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of presence, with flares launched, to deter enemy action. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Asadabad, RC-E
Coalition pilots and U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Coalition pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, which ground controllers declared successful. The F-15E aircrews released precision-guided munitions when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Enemy fire was suppressed and ground controllers declared actions successful.

Tirgari, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew and U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The F-15E aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy fire and the B-1B aircrew released a precision-guided munition against an enemy position when enemy fire was reported. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.

Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force and shows of presence to deter enemy forces from attacking friendly forces.

Airlift Action

Farah Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Kandahar Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
