6/2/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations May 31, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Bari Kowt, Regional Command - East
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces. Ground controllers passed coordinates for enemy positions to the aircrew, which released precision-guided munitions and eliminated threats friendly forces. Joint terminal attack controllers called the engagement successful.

Lashkar Gar, RC-S
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots and aircrews coordinated with Joint terminal attack controllers to conduct shows of force, some with flares, to deter enemy action. The shows of force were determined successful.

Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots released a precision-guided munition against an enemy position, eliminating a threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Kandahar, RC-S
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Aircrews observed enemy troops in tree-line positions. Ground forces positively identified coordinates and passed them to the aircrews, which released missiles to eliminate the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Sheykhabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle and U.S Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and friendly-forces ground patrol. Aircrews conducted a show of force and shows of presence to deter enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.

Karokh, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy that encountered an improvised explosive device. The aircrew conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan forces activity. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful when no enemy action occurred.

Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots suspected an imminent attack against friendly ground forces and conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy aggression during friendly forces troop posturing. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.

Shurakian, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of presence to deter enemy forces activity while a friendly ground forces started its patrol. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Airlift Action

Day Kundi Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Day Kundi Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 27,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Air Operations in Iraq:

Kirkuk, USD-N
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. Pilots conducted shows of force to deter enemy action while the convoy was enroute to its destination. The shows of force were declared successful when no enemy activity occurred and the convoy arrived safely.
