5/25/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations May 22, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Asmar, Regional Command - East
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Convoy personnel observed enemy forces setting up an ambush site with heavy weapons. Ground controllers authorized an immediate strike and pilots released precision-guided munitions against the ambush site destroying the enemy position. Pilots also conducted a show of presence to deter further enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions successful.
Gardez, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots, U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy that encountered an improvised explosive device. The F-16C pilots and Coalition aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy action in the area of the convoy. No further enemy action was noted. The F/A-18F aircrews also conducted a show of force over friendly forces taking enemy fire.
Mata Khan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the action successful when enemy fire ceased.
Ali Kheyl, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to help Coalition forces break contact with enemy forces after taking enemy fire. The show of force was determined successful by ground controllers when enemy fire ceased and contact was broken.
Remak, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of presence and show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy action in the area. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Lashkar Gah, RC-E
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, which ground controllers declared successful.
Chahar Bagh, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, which ground controllers determined was successful.
Badghis, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of presence to deter enemy action, followed by a show of force. Ground controllers reported all actions successful.

Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
