5/25/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations May 23, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Qarah Bagh, Regional Command - East
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Convoy personnel reported taking heavy enemy fire from several positions and pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy fire.

Sheykhabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces reported taking harassing enemy fire so pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy action. No further enemy action was noted.

Lashkar Gah, RC-S
Coalition aircrews and U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews and pilots conducted a show of presence and shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when enemy fire ceased.

Remak, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy fire and a possible attack. Ground controllers declared the action successful.

Orgun-E, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition against an enemy position, which ground controllers declared successful.

Soltani, RC-E
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, which ground controllers determined was successful.

Bagram, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter any anti-Afghan forces activity. Ground controllers reported the action successful.

Ali Kheyl, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots and U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a Coalition-forces convoy that encountered an improvised explosive device. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy forces from setting up a machine gun site. The U.S. Navy aircrews conducted a show of presence in the same area. The show of force and show of presence were determined successful by ground controllers.

Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of presence to deter enemy action. Ground controllers reported the show of presence successful.

Almar, RC-W
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy and an Afghan National Police patrol. The ANP patrol reported observing a large enemy force so aircrews conducted a show of presence to deter any enemy aggression. The show of presence was determined successful by ground controllers when no enemy fire occurred.

Airlift Action

Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Zabul Province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 72,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Herat, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a low-cost, low-altitude airdrop in Herat Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 1,200 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
