US Couple Abducted in Yemen
24 May 2010
Armed Yemeni tribesmen have kidnapped an American couple traveling near the capital, Sanaa.
Sources say the two were abducted Monday along with their driver and translator.
The French News Agency reports the driver told them by telephone that the kidnappers are calling for the release of a fellow tribesman held by authorities in Sanaa.
The driver says they were taken in the Bani Mansour area located about 70 kilometers west of the capital and taken to Hamra village.
Angry Yemeni tribesmen often kidnap foreigners to press demands to government authorities. Many of those abducted have been released unharmed.
Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
