Air Operations in Afghanistan
Lashkar Gah, Regional Command - South
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Joint terminal attack controllers directed the aircrews to coordinates of two booby-trapped buildings laden with house-borne improvised explosive devices. After ground forces evacuated surrounding structures, aircrews released precision-guided munitions against the targets and successfully destroyed the buildings eliminating threats
Surkhabad, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to break contact with and deter enemy fire against friendly forces. When enemy fire resumed, pilots conducted cannon-fire strafing runs against enemy positions and stopped enemy fire. Joint terminal attack controllers declared all actions successful.
Gereshk, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, and a cannon-fire strafing run to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when enemy fire ceased.
Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force to deter enemy fire against friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when no further activity was noted.
Mata Khan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces patrol. Aircrews conducted a show of force, expending flares, to deter enemy action when the friendly-forces patrol fired on enemy forces emplacing an improvised explosive device. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful.

U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 42,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 38,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Oruzgan Province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 62,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
