5/4/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations April 30 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Helmand, Regional Command-South
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Coalition forces reported taking enemy small-arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire, confirmed coordinates of an enemy bunker position and passed coordinates to aircrews. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition against the enemy bunker, destroying it and stopping enemy fire. Joint terminal attack controllers confirmed the strike as successful.

Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16 C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol. Friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity in area of the patrol. Ground control confirmed the actions successful when no further enemy fire was reported.

Asmar, RC-E
U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews coordinated with ground controllers to suppress and terminate enemy fire against the friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews released precision-guided munitions and enemy fighting positions were destroyed. Ground controllers confirmed the success of all engagements.

Sangin, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, which was confirmed successful by ground controllers.

Later, U.S. Air Force A-10 thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful.

Karokh, RC-W
U.S. F-A/18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of presence that ground controllers declared successful.

Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of presence, which was confirmed successful by joint terminal attack controllers.

Shurakian, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew conducted armed overwatch for a friendly-forces troop movement and casualty evacuation. The aircrew conducted a show of presence, with flares launched, to deter enemy action.

Tani, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews observed threatening enemy movement in vicinity of friendly forces. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition against the enemy position and neutralized the threat to friendly forces. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the action successful.

Airlift Action

Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew and a C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew combat-airdrop missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering 9,000 pounds and 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Kandahar Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 18,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
