Navy NewsStand
NEW YORK CITY (NNS) -- The Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Bronx became NOSC New York City on May 1, 2010, to more accurately reflect the constituency of its 1,000 Selected Reserve Sailors and their families who live and work in the greater New York City metropolitan area.
The NOSC is headquartered in the Throgs Neck area of the Bronx and is the largest Navy Operational Support Center in the northeast and the largest Navy presence in the New York City area.
"This command has a long and esteemed history of sending Sailors forward to help in real world operations," said Capt. Tim Werre, commanding officer of the NOSC. "Today, we have over 240 Sailors across the globe in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, the Arabian Gulf, Haiti and Africa."
The NOSC's mission is to train and mobilize citizen-sailors for service supporting the full range of real world operations. It provides mission-capable units and individuals for mobilization to the Navy and Marine Corps team stationed in forward presences abroad.
NOSC Bronx has participated in every major conflict, peace keeping operation and humanitarian relief operation since 1965.
