LITTLE CREEK, Va. (NNS) -- Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Gary Roughead visited Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) and was the keynote speaker at an event hosted by Hampton Roads Navy League, April 29.

CNO went to NECC to tour the facilities and get a first hand look at the command's operational readiness.

"What we've been able to do with NECC is bring [naval] communities together, communities that have really special and unique skills, talent and competence," said Roughead. "And bring them together and be able to use them more effectively."

Roughead toured base training facilities including a Riverine Command Boat and talked with Sailors about a variety of topics and thanked them for their contributions.

"The demands that commanders around the world have for your skills and your talent and your capabilities, speaks volumes at what you've been able to do at this command in the last couple of years," said Roughead.

NECC is a unique command that integrates both active and reserve components, deploying together to execute operational and humanitarian missions, help improve international relationships, promote peace, and prevent war.

While in the area, Roughead also spent some time with the Hampton Roads Navy League to show his gratitude to the group for their support they extend to Sailors every year.

"I thank you for everything you do, for the support, for the understanding and for your advocacy for the world's greatest Navy," said Roughead.
