4/28/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations April 27 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Asmar, Regional Command-East
U.S Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and surveillance for suspicious activity. Friendly forces reported discovery of an enemy heavy machine gun position and relayed coordinates to the pilots. Precision-guided munitions were released against and ground controllers confirmed destruction of the enemy position.

U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided close air support for a friendly-forces convoy. When the convoy reported taking enemy fire, aircrews released a precision-guided munition against the enemy fighting position. Ground control confirmed a good hit and that enemy fire was suppressed.

Soltani, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy and a friendly-forces patrol. Aircrews conducted a show of force over the friendly patrol, which had previously reported enemy fire, to deter further enemy activity, which was determined successful by ground controllers.

Asadabad, RC-E
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When friendly forces reported taking enemy fire from several locations they passed confirmed coordinates to the aircrews. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions against the enemy positions, eliminating the positions and stopping enemy fire.

Almar, RC-N
A U.S Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol. The friendly patrol reported taking recent enemy fire and was currently observing suspicious activity along an adjacent ridgeline. After coordinates were confirmed, aircrews released a precision-guided munition . The engagement eliminated the threat to friendly forces.

Ghazni, RC-E
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly and conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity in the area. Ground commanders confirmed the show of force was successful.

F-15 E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, a friendly-forces convoy and dismounted patrol. Aircrews conducted a show of presence, with flares launched, over the convoy and a show of force over friendly forces to deter enemy activity in the areas. Both engagements met ground controllers' intent and were declared successful.

Parkakan, RC-W
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and escort for a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted shows of force, one with flares launched, to deter anti-Afghan forces activity when friendly forces and a convoy reported taking enemy fire. Joint terminal attack controllers confirmed the shows of force successful when enemy fire ceased.

A B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces operation. The aircrew conducted shows of force over a suspected enemy compound to deter enemy action. Joint terminal attack controllers reported the shows of force were successful.

Surkhabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force to deter enemy fire in the vicinity of friendly forces. The shows of force were declared successful by joint terminal attack controllers.

Airlift Action

Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 72,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-resupply missions in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 30,000 pounds and approximately 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Farah Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a low-cost low-altitude combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 1,200 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 26,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
