4/26/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations April 23 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Asmar, Regional Command-East
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces reported receiving heavy enemy small-arms fire and pilots released precision-guided munitions against enemy fighting positions to break enemy contact with friendly ground forces. The engagement was declared successful by joint terminal attack controllers.

Zirani, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol and convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter anti-Afghan forces activity in the area. The show of force was confirmed successful by ground controllers.

Khowst, RC-E
A U. S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and reconnaissance for suspicious activity. The aircrew observed enemy forces firing against friendly forces and released a precision-guided munition against the enemy fighting position, eliminating the enemy position and stopping enemy fire. Later, the aircrew conducted a show of presence that ground controllers reported successful.

F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. The aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter possible enemy activity in the convoy area. The show of force was confirmed successful by ground controllers.

Farah, RC-W
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces during an exfiltration operation. Pilots conducted a show of force, which was called successful by joint terminal attack controllers.

Konduz, RC-N
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, over the area to deter enemy action along the convoy route. The shows of force were confirmed successful by ground controllers.

Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 20,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Ghazni Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 27,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
