3rd Sustainment Bde cases colors

FORT STEWART, Ga. -- The 3rd Sustainment Brigade and Special Troops Battalion cased their colors in preparation for their upcoming deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, April 15.
This deployment will be the fourth for the 3rd Sustainment Bde. In 2002, the brigade deployed to Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom I. In 2004, they deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III and in the fall of 2007, the 3rd Sustainment Bde. deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom VII.
The Special Troops Battalion, which was activated as the Division Support Brigade Troops Battalion at Fort Stewart in September 2004, deployed in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III and supported Operation Iraqi Freedom VII in May 2007 as the Special Troops Battalion.
The ceremony, which was held at Marne Gardens, featured Soldiers of the 3rd Sustainment Bde., Family Members and friends. The Color Guard was provided by 260th Quartermaster Battalion Color Guard team under the direction Staff Sgt. Thompkins, Colors sergeant.
The Special Troops Battalion's Command Team, Lt. Col. Heidi J. Hoyle and Command Sgt. Maj. Anthony D. Whitney, cased their colors; after which, Col. Shawn M. Morrissey, 3rd Sustainment Brigade commander and Command Sergeant Major Clifton H. Johnson, 3rd Sustainment Bde. command sergeant major, cased the brigade's colors.
Colonel Morrissey thanked the Soldiers for their dedication, and he brought the attention of all present to the Soldiers on the field who represents the units assigned to the brigade and the status of their Colors. All of the colors in the formation were cased. The 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is currently deployed to Iraq; the 87th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion deployed to Afghanistan early last month; the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 260th Quartermaster Battalion deployed to Iraq early last year and will be returning home soon, along with the Special Troops Battalion.
Colonel Morrissey said this shows the hard work and dedication of the Soldiers of 3rd Sustainment Brigade and that he is very proud to be their commander.He went further to say that all the accomplishment of the brigade would not be possible without the support of Family Members, whom he thanked and promised he would try his best to keep their Soldier safe and bring everyone back home at the end of the deployment.
