US drone strike kills 4 in Pakistan
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, April 17, IRNA -- A US drone aircraft killed at least four people in a Pakistani tribal region on Friday, tribesmen said.
The drone aircraft fired seven missiles at Tul Khel area of North Waziristan tribal agency, near the Afghan border, they said.
Tribesmen said that the missiles hit two vehicles on a main road.
Three other people were injured who were shifted to hospital in Miranshah, the center of North Waziristan.
There had been no immediate information as to who was targeted.
US claims that the drone aircraft target suspected Taliban and al-Qaeda militants who are hiding in Pakistan tribal regions and plan attacks on foreign troops in the neighbouring Afghanistan.
The US has stepped up drone attacks in Pakistan since a bomber struck the CIA center in Afghanistan’s Khost province, killing seven CIA personnel in late December.
The bomber was shown in a recorded video along with Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsood, who the U.S official believes to have been killed in a drone strike in January.
Taliban denied Mehsood’s death reports and Pakistan army says it has no confirmation.
