NORFOLK, Va (NNS) -- Rear Adm. Joseph F. Kilkenny, commander, Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), visited Submarine Learning Facility (SLF) Norfolk April 6 to get a firsthand look at how simulators are used to train submariners.
During his visit, SLF staff showed him the various simulators used to teach SLF students. Kilkenny was able to experience firsthand the high fidelity virtual simulator called the Fleet Interactive Display Equipment (FIDE), that is used to teach submariners how-to operate and control a nuclear reactor,
Kilkenny's visit to SLF is part of an ongoing process designed to strengthen the quality of training through a variety of means, including direct fleet feedback, and participation in the training development process.
The visit gave the admiral further insight and understanding of the various training that submariners receive at SLF.
