Berlin still committed to Afghan strategy amid rising casualties
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, April 16, IRNA -- The German government remains committed to its strategy in Afghanistan amid the mounting military death toll, chancellery spokesman Christoph Steegmans told the press here Friday.
"The strategy is still being viewed as making sense," the German official said.
Steegmans stressed there was no need for changing Germany's military mandate in Afghanistan after seven German soldiers and many more were wounded in two separate Taliban attacks in northern Afghanistan this month, bringing the total number of killed German troops to 43 since late 2001.
The surge in the number of German military deaths in Afghanistan has also triggered renewed calls for a swift withdrawal from the war-ravaged country.
