VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (NNS) -- Kearsarge Amphibious Readiness Group (ARG) and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (26th MEU) participated in a staff planning workshop April 14 to prepare them for an upcoming deployment.
"The purpose of this workshop is to get some training between Marines and Sailors on possible scenarios that can happen during our upcoming deployment," said Marine Capt. Doug Krugman, Weapon Company commander for the 26th MEU. "These scenarios help us all figure out each other's roles."
Each of the different departments of the ARG and MEU were operated from separate compartments during the scenarios to give the feel as if they are on ship.
"This workshop provides a safe environment to practice real world scenarios," said Lt. Cmdr. Berry James, N9 for Commander, Amphibious Squadron 4. "It's better to make errors here and have the time to learn from them than make them out to sea during pre-deployment exercises."
The training was provided through a variety of potential real-world scenarios ranging from mass casualties and beach raids to humanitarian missions.
"Due to these scenarios, we were able to find our own counterparts within the MEU," said James. "We are integrating very well and familiarizing ourselves with each other."
The workshop is being held by Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic, located on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story.
