
NIGERIA: Investigations of mass killings in Nigeria
JOS, 13 April 2010 (IRIN) - Perpetrators of mass killings in Nigeria have largely gone unpunished over the past decade, according to legal experts and human rights groups. Following is a list of some investigations into inter-communal violence that has killed more than 13,000 people since 1999, according to Human Rights Watch. Two-year suspension of Muslim umbrella group Jama’atu Nasril Islam and the Hausa youth development association Jasawa Youth Development Association, and the prosecution of Hausa community leaders with role in violence. Also recommended a ban on the use of loudspeakers in mosques and mandatory approval from state-run Jos Metropolitan Development Board for the construction of additional mosques. |
