4/12/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations April 11 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Asmar, Regional Command-East
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition against an enemy fighting position to neutralize enemy fire. Ground controllers confirmed success.
Shahidan, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces, a dismounted patrol that had encountere an improvised explosive device and a medical evacuation via helicopter. A show of force was conducted to deter enemy action against the convoy. Joint terminal attack controllers reported the show of force successful when the convoy no longer received enemy fire.
Sar Banader, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for Coalition and friendly forces. When enemy fire broke out from a ridgeline position against Coalition forces, aircrews conducted strafing runs that ended the enemy fire.
Balocan, RC-S
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and reconnaissance for suspicious activity. When friendly forces reported enemy fire in the area, shows of force were conducted to stop the enemy fire. The shows of force were deemed successful. Later more shows of force were conducted to deter enemy activity in the area. These shows of force were also successful as no enemy activity was noted.
Gereshk, RC-S
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces foot patrol. A show of force, with a flare launched, was conducted to deter enemy action as the patrol passed known enemy fighting positions. The show of force was deemed successful when no enemy action occurred.
Monari, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided close air support for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force that ground control determined to be successful.
Airlift Action
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, airdropping 60,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 30,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces
