Air Operations in Afghanistan
Lashkar Gah, Regional Command-South
U.S. Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and area reconnaissance for friendly forces. When enemy forces were observed emplacing improvised explosive devices, a missile was fired eliminating a threat to friendly forces and the local population.
Ghazni, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and friendly-forces convoys. The aircrews conducted a show of force over a convoy with a disabled vehicle to deter enemy activity . Ground commanders declared the show of force successful.
Konduz, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots and F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, friendly-forces convoys and medical-evacuation helicopter flights. The F-16 pilots conducted a show of force when friendly forces reported taking enemy small-arms fire. The show of force stopped enemy fire. The pilots then escorted the medical-evacuation aircraft in and out of the area. Later, the F-15E aircrews conducted a show of force over one of the convoys to deter enemy activity after the convoy was struck by an IED. The aircrews conducted another show of force over friendly forces to deter potential enemy action. Ground commanders declared the shows of force successful.
Surkhabad, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to gauge enemy movement in the vicinity of the friendly forces.
Asmar, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter potential enemy action in the vicinity of the friendly forces. The show of force was declared successful by ground forces.
Khaval, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of presence to deter anti-Afghan forces activity. Ground commanders declared the shows of presence successful.
Balocan, RC-S
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of presence to deter enemy activity. Ground commanders declared the show of presence successful.
Airlift Action
Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat supply mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 7,000 pounds of Easter meals to friendly forces in the field.
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 36,000 pounds of supplied to friendly forces.
