Wright-Patterson officials to host Installation Acquisition Transformation unit

3/31/2010 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFNS) -- Air Force officials announced March 30 that Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has been selected as the site for the new Installation Acquisition Transformation Enterprise Sourcing Group.

A new Air Force Materiel Command unit, the IAT ESG will be responsible for strategically sourcing installation-level purchasing across the continental United States.

It will do so by leveraging proven strategic sourcing processes with information technology and e-commerce capabilities, so Air Force officials can take advantage of economies of scale in buying goods and services.

The group's goals also include enhancing customer service and accelerating delivery of goods and services at most continental Air Force installations.

The ESG will employ approximately 45 people when it first opens for business this spring and approximately 200 people once it's fully-manned next spring, said Marie McManus, the chief of the AFMC Installation Acquisition Transformation Division, who also leads the IAT Program Office.

She said the Air Force decision to place the unit at Wright-Patterson AFB was made after conducting site surveys last November and December, followed by a thorough analysis of factors including costs, manpower and infrastructure available.
