3/27/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations March 25 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Asadabad, Regional Command-East
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions against enemy forces following an attack against friendly forces. The ground commander declared the pilots' actions successful.
Coalition operators conducted armed reconnaissance and provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The operators tracked several enemy personnel following an attack on friendly forces. Ground commanders requested the operators continue to monitor possible enemy personnel and neutralize enemy forces firing on friendly forces. The operators witnessed enemy forces firing against friendly forces from behind a wall and released a missile. The operators' actions were declared successful by friendly forces on the ground.
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for ground forces returning to a combat outpost. The friendly forces began taking smallarms and rocket-propelled grenade fire from an enemy fighting position. A joint terminal attack controller passed pilots the location of enemy forces and pilots released precision-guided munitions, eliminating the threat. The pilots continued to provide armed overwatch to friendly ground forces until another group of enemy forces assaulted friendly forces with small-arms fire. Pilots located enemy forces and released precision-guided munitions. Ground forces declared the weapons releases successful.
Musa Qaleh, RC-S
A B-1B Lancer aircrew conducted armed reconnaissance; searching roads, compounds and several locations for suspicious activity and a stolen vehicle. The aircrew responded to friendly ground forces under attack by enemy personnel. A joint terminal attack controller requested a show of force. The aircrew conducted a show of force that the JTAC declared successful.
A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots supported friendly forces under attack by enemy personnel firing from a tree line. The pilots conducted a show of force, releasing multiple flares at the request of ground forces to deter enemy action. Ground forces then requested a strafing run. The pilots conducted strafing runs against the enemy position, successfully defending friendly forces.
Sheykhabad, RC-E
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for a convoy and later conducted a show of force to support friendly forces near the convoy's location, which had come under small-arms fire. The show of force was declared successful by ground forces.
Kandahar, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews conducted shows of force. The shows of force were declared successful.
U.S. Navy F/A-18E aircrews conducted shows of force, releasing flares. The shows of force were declared successful by joint terminal attack controllers.
Chahar Bagh, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots conducted armed reconnaissance and a show of force above suspicious people gathered in a roadway near a possible improvised explosive device. Friendly ground forces declared the show of force successful
Lashkar Gah, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews conducted a successful show of force, releasing flares, while providing armed overwatch for ground forces.
