NORFOLK (NNS) -- Deputy commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet changed hands at the 2nd Fleet Maritime Headquarters March 25.

Rear Adm. Scott Sanders relieved Rear Adm. Robert Wright as deputy commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet.

Wright, a native of Boston and the 2nd Fleet deputy commander since June 2008, will transfer and assume responsibilities as vice commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.

Sanders, from California, Md., most recently served as commander, Combined Task Force 151, where he was responsible throughout his tenure for 4,400 Sailors on 19 ships from seven nations. Additionally, he is the only Reservist to ever command an international task force at sea.

Commanded by Vice Adm. Mel Williams Jr., 2nd Fleet is focused on executing safe and effective fleet operations to achieve mission; providing ready maritime forces for global assignment; and teaming with allies and partners in execution of the maritime strategy.

Throughout its history, 2nd Fleet's Sailors, ships, submarines and aircraft have played a pivotal role in answering the call to homeland defense and responding to global crisis, as well as being trained, ready, and capable of worldwide deployment.

Second Fleet's area of responsibility spans the Atlantic Ocean from the North Pole to the Caribbean Sea, and from the United States coastline to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
