3/23/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations March 21 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Close Air Support

Asmar, Regional Command-South
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and released precision-guided munitions to neutralize enemy positions. Ground commanders declared the aircrews' actions successful.

U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle pilots conducted armed reconnaissance and provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Ground forces came under attack from enemy personnel and requested precision-guided munitions be employed against the attackers' positions. The aircrews released precision-guided munitions, successfully neutralizing the threat to friendly forces.

Balocan, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A joint terminal attack controller requested a show of force to deter enemy action. The aircrews conducted a show of force, releasing multiple flares. The JTAC declared the show of force successful.

Airlift Action

Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-resupply missions in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Paktika Province, RC-E
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew a combat-airdrop mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 130,000 pounds of supplies to friendly ground forces.
