3/17/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations March 13 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Close Air Support
Asadabad, Regional Command- East
U.S Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots conducted a show of presence near friendly forces patrolling a village. The show of presence was successful. The pilots later checked-in with ground forces under attack from enemy small-arms fire. Upon request, pilots released precision-guided munitions against the enemy firing position. Ground forces declared the action successful.
Kandahar, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots conducted a show of force, releasing numerous flares above friendly forces who had received fire from enemy forces. The show of force was declared successful when enemy action ceased.
Coalition pilots conducted aerial reconnaissance of various transportation routes and locations. A joint terminal attack controller requested the pilots conduct a show of force above an enemy fighting position. Pilots conducted a show of force, releasing multiple flares.
Mata Khan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews flew an armed reconnaissance mission and positively identified enemy forces attempting to emplace an improvised explosive device. The aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy action against friendly ground forces.
Additional F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews continued to monitor previously-identified enemy forces. Aircrews released precision-guided munitions, neutralizing the threat and conducted several shows of force to deter additional enemy action. Ground forces declared the actions of all aircrews successful.
Surkhabad, RC-S
A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots conducted multiple shows of force above personnel in a suspected enemy firing position. Ground forces monitored the location and declared the shows of force successful.
Airlift Action
Farah Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 45,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Paktika Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 70,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 35,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
Air Operations in Iraq:
Baqubah
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots conducted a show of force over a location used by insurgents to attack friendly forces. The show of force was declared successful.
