WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (NNS) -- Sailors from Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Jason Dunham, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer currently under construction, completed a two-week Combat Information Center Team course in February at Surface Combat Systems Center's (SCSC) Aegis Engineering and Training Complex.
The training, conducted by Center for Surface Combat Systems instructors, familiarized the destroyer's new crew with the warfighting capabilities of one of the Navy's newest combat system suites.
"The crew of PCU Jason Dunham was able to work on individual watch station training, team watch standing and doctrine management, as well as rehearse preplanned responses using approved AEGIS Combat Training System/Battle Force Tactical Training scenarios on actual shipboard equipment with live sensors. This is the most realistic environment a crew can have before move aboard," said SCSC Commanding Officer Cmdr. John Keegan. "[The crew] now has the confidence to operate the combat system in an at-sea environment. I'm glad SCSC can contribute to the Fleet in this manner."
PCU Jason Dunham is named after Medal of Honor recipient Marine Cpl. Jason L. Dunham and was christened in August 2009. Jason Dunham, the 59th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, will be able to conduct a variety of operations, from peacetime presence and crisis management, to sea control and power projection.
