Carl Vinson Partners with Uruguay for Southern Seas 2010

USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70)--At Sea (NNS) -- USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) will conduct operations March 7, with Uruguay off the coast of the South American nation as part of Southern Seas 2010, a component of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) Partnership of the Americas.
"One measure of the success of Southern Seas is how closely we get to operate with our South American partners," said Rear Adm. Ted Branch, Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1. "The Uruguayan Navy's leadership and dedication to peacekeeping missions is noteworthy and its contributions to regional and global security are robust. It's not very often that we get to work with and increase our interoperability with Uruguay and we're embracing this opportunity to train with the Uruguayan navy."
Carl Vinson along with USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) will conduct various naval exercises with the Uruguayan navy including maneuvering drills and military-to-military exchanges by embarking subject matter experts to encourage the two-way flow of information. Guests will also view an aerial demonstration conducted by Vinson's embarked air wing components.
Carl Vinson recently completed similar operations with Brazil following a port visit in Rio de Janeiro.
"We are excited about this chance to partner with Uruguay," said Vinson's Commanding Officer Capt. Bruce H. Lindsey. "Uruguay is a recognized leader in international peacekeeping operations and we foresee a great exchange during our time together."
Also conducting operations with Uruguay is USS Bunker Hill, Destroyer Squadron 1 and air wing components from CVW 17, VFA 81, VAW 125, VRC 40, and HS 15, which are all currently assigned to CSG 1.
