NAPLES, Italy (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Europe Africa Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA) awarded a Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) on Feb. 19 for projects at Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota and other locations throughout Spain.

The MACC was awarded to five contractors, with a total contract capacity worth approximately $68,130,000 for the base year, plus four option years.

"The MACC provides a streamlined acquisition process where we can potentially save upwards of 60 days in a typical construction solicitation," said Lt. Cmdr. Carl Kirar, assistant operations officer for NAVFAC EURAFSWA. "Of course there are many variables to every contract, but the MACC contractors are pre-screened for past performance and design-build capability, which greatly contributes to the potential time-savings."

This MACC is an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract to be used for construction, renovation, demolition or repair of facilities, waterfront or airfields or related infrastructure. The Spanish contractors on the MACC are UTE Castellano-Cobra, Elecnor (SA), Newimar (SA), Rafael Morales (SA), and Sociedad Espanola de Montajes Industriales (SA).

The initial project to remove and replace HVAC system in the administration building at NAVSTA Rota was awarded to UTE Casetellano-Cobra for approximately $396,778, with an estimated completion date of April 14, 2011.
