Chinhae Supply Delivers to U.S. Navy Ships in Korea

CHINHAE, Republic of Korea (NNS) -- Sailors from U.S. Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, (FISC) Yokosuka Detachment at Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) support USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) during a port visit to the Republic of Korea March 5.
"We are the logistics support representatives for the ships," said Logistics Specialist 2nd Class, Matt Cuppola, of Worchester, New York. "Usually, when a ship is in port, we make a supply run once a day, or four times every five days. "
Cuppola delivered maintenance parts, cell phones and 85 pounds of mail to the U.S. 7th Fleet command ship after the ship pulled into to Busan. Blue Ridge is scheduled to participate in Key Resolve, an annual command and control exercise.
"My job here in Chinhae is important to ships, mainly with morale, so they don't have to wait to receive their mail or parts," said Cuppola. "In addition, FISC Det. Chinhae is the middle man between the ships and the husbandry agent. If I can not help them or do not have the answer, I know where to go."
Annually, CFAC supports about 50 port visits for U.S. Navy ships.
"I have really enjoyed working at the FISC here in Korea for the past year," said Cuppola.
CFAC is the only U.S. Navy base in Korea and is located on the southern tip of the peninsula, 40 minutes from Busan.
