IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 3, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday that the existing crisis and insecurity in Afghanistan do not have a military solution.
Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Afghan Parliament Vice Speaker Aman Allah Payman on Wednesday.
The escalation of insecurity and high production of drug narcotics in the war-torn country indicate that the foreign forces failed to carry out their mission in the country, Mottaki said.
According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the meeting, Mottaki said countries in the region should play a leading role in resolving their issues and interferences of aliens will backfire.
The existing parliamentary cooperation and relations between the two countries are satisfactory, he said, adding that the exchange of visits between the two sides' officials will help bolster and deepen such friendly ties.
He also highlighted the historical and cultural commonalities between Iran and Afghanistan.
The visiting Afghan envoy, for his part, accorded the warm greetings of Afghan MPs and said the powerful presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region along with the country’s outstanding military and security developments have left significant impacts on global developments.
Iran has played a very positive role in ongoing developments in Afghanistan, he said, adding that “We never let the Iranian boarder being threatened from the Afghan territory.”
