Naval Support Activity North Potomac Commanding Officer Relieved of Command

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The commandant of Naval District Washington has relieved the commanding officer of Naval Support Activity (NSA) North Potomac for cause.

Rear Adm. Patrick J. Lorge ordered that Cmdr. Scott A. Merritt be detached on Feb. 12.

Based on findings from an internal investigation which began Nov. 23, 2009, Lorge lost confidence in Merritt's ability to command.

Merritt took command of NSA North Potomac on May 14, 2007.

Cmdr. Dennis Quick has assumed command as the acting commanding officer until a permanent replacement is identified. Quick was the executive officer of NSA South Potomac.

Cmdr. Merritt is temporarily reassigned within Naval District Washington.
