IAI Announces First Deliveries of New Multi-Mission Optronic Stabilized Payload (MOSP3000) Unit for International Program

Feb 15, 2010

Israel Aerospace Industries’ Tamam Division (IAI/Tamam, of the Systems, Missiles, and Space Group) has announced the first deliveries of its new Multi-Mission Optronic Stabilized Payload (MOSP3000) unit for an international customer.

The new payloads are already in operational service for Identification Surveillance Targeting Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions including laser designation.

Further deliveries to additional customers are scheduled for this year.

Shaul Shahar, General Manager of Tamam, said: "We are very proud of this new payload - it is the most capable member of the MOSP family. The MOSP3000 is a remarkable achievement of our engineering and technical staff."

MOSP3000 is a multi-sensor electro-optic and infrared (EO/IR) payload that is an evolution of the successful MOSP concept. The system is available in 14-inch (36cm) and 15-inch (38cm) diameter configuration, with identical internal design. The 14” unit is designed primarily for UAV and aerostat platforms, while the 15” unit is designed primarily for helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, naval vessels and ground applications that require enhanced ruggedized structures.

MOSP3000’s open architecture design accommodates up to five sensors. The sensor package includes a continuous day color zoom camera, a variety of thermal imaging cameras (640x480 detector format), a laser pointer, and an eye-safe laser range finder or a laser designator & range finder (LDRF).

System highlights include:
1. Four gimbals concept with Fiber Optics Gyro (FOG) technology and shaft encoders for excellent stabilization and highly accurate gimbal angle readout.
2. One line replaceable unit (LRU) with all electronics inside payload – no external electronic boxes. Total weight – less than 32 Kg.
3. “Plug & Play” sensors: each sensor is completely independent and operated digitally
4. In-flight Boresight for all sensors
5. Significantly enhanced dynamics (slew rate and acceleration)
6. Enhanced image processing
7. Digital video and HD capability
8. Area auto-tracking, in addition to the original correlative and centroid features
