2/13/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations February 11, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Close Air Support
Musa Qaleh, Regional Command-South
U. S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, followed by strafing runs to deter enemy fire on friendly troops.
U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The operators observed enemy forces behind a wall firing on friendly forces. Operators eliminated the threat to friendly forces with a missile.
An Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces supporting a medical-evacuation operation. When friendly forces reported taking enemy fire from several locations, enemy position coordinates were passed to the aircrew and numerous precision-guided munitions were employed to stop enemy fire. The enemy firing positions were destroyed.
Parmakan, RC-W
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces dismounted patrol. Aircrews conducted close air support for the friendly patrol when they came under enemy fire from several locations. The pilots utilized several types of munitions to counter enemy fire. The enemy positions were rendered ineffective by cannon fire strafing runs and precision-guided munitions. The weapons released successfully stopped enemy action.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces in the area. Aircrews conducted a show of force in order to deter enemy fire from the surrounding area. The show of force was declared successful when no enemy action was noted.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed reconnaissance for friendly forces. The pilots scouted for suspicious activity in the area, then conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter any potential enemy action in the area. The shows of force were considered a success when desired effects were achieved.
Morghab, RC-W
F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces patrol and convoy. The aircrew conducted a show of force to break hostile contact with friendly forces. The show of force was declared successful.
Farah, RC-W
A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces and a convoy. When a vehicle in the convoy stalled, a show of force was conducted to deter any potential enemy action while the vehicle was repaired. The show of force was successful as no enemy action was noted.
Airlift Action
Kunar Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 30,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 22,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Farah Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 25,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
Helmund Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-sustainment mission in Helmund Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 36,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.
Paktika Province, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-resupply mission in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, airdropping approximately 72,000 pounds of supplies to friendly forces.

Al Amarah, USD-S
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted shows of force, with flares, that were declared effective by ground control.
