2/2/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations January 29, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Lashkar Gah, Regional Command-South
U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces conducting a mission. Friendly forces reported taking enemy small arms fire and requested air support. The point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and operators launched a missile, which successfully stopped the enemy action. Friendly forces completed their mission.

Later, additional U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces conducting a mission. The friendly forces reported an engagement with the enemy forces firing small arms and requested air support. The enemy mingled with civilians and eventually separated to a compound and met with another group of enemy personnel. The enemy firing position was confirmed and operators launched a missile that successfully stopped the enemy action. Friendly forces completed their mission.

Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter potential anti-Afghan forces activity in the vicinity of friendly ground forces. The show of force was successful as no enemy action was noted.

A U.S Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of force during a medical evacuation of wounded friendly forces. The show of force was successful as the evacuation was a success, with no enemy fire noted.

Chahar Bagh RC-S
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces providing protection for a town hall meeting. The aircrews conducted a show of force for friendly forces taking enemy small arms fire from a nearby compound. The show of force was considered successful when enemy fire ceased.

Abchakan RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter improvised explosive device triggermen along the route. The show of force was successful as no action was noted.

Tirgari RC-E
U.S. Air Force F15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for a Coalition forces convoy. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter possible enemy aggression along the route. The route had been hit with several attacks the last few days. The show of force was successful as no action was noted.

Asadabad RC-E
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots conducted a show of presence and a show of force in order to deter enemy action. Both were declared successful when no enemy action was noted.
