Port-au-Prince - A 33-member Coast Guard Advanced Port Security Team, consisting of personnel from Law Enforcement Team South and Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Team, arrived at Toussaint L’Ouverture International Airport, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Thursday.
The tactical law enforcement teams consist of members from Miami and San Diego, Calif.
Their mission is to assist the U.S. Agency for International Development, which is orchestrating the efforts of U.S. and international military and civilian agencies already providing aid on scene.
Specifically this will include providing a safe environment for members of the Marine Transportation Recovery Unit during their efforts to reconstruct the port.
The next priority for this team will be assisting with re-establishing the Haitian Coast Guard’s ability to perform normal operations by providing them with the supplies they need to become entirely operational again.
Interviews are available upon request. Please contact the Haiti Joint Information Center at Haitijic@usaid.gov.
