1/12/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations January 09, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Asmar
An Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrew provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Coalition forces requested air support when an enemy fighting position and suspicious personnel were observed nearby Coalition forces. When friendly forces reported taking enemy fire, the aircrew received coordinates for the enemy position, then released precision-guided munitions against the target, which eliminated the threat. A show of force was later conducted to continue deterrence of any enemy fire.

Qal-E-Naw
An aircrew flying a Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft provided armed overwatch and force protection for returning friendly-forces patrols. Friendly forces were returning from patrols when they reported taking indirect enemy fire. A show of force, with flares expended, was requested to deter enemy fire on the patrols. The action was deemed successful when all enemy aggression in the area ceased. The aircraft remained overhead until the patrols were inside established friendly areas.
