DOUALA, Cameroon (NNS) -- The Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3 are renovating the barracks of the Cameroonian anti-terrorism team helping strengthen their infrastructure.
With 24 rooms, two offices, and two utility rooms, the Seabees are responsible for renovating the building from floor to ceiling. Several Seabees with various skillsets will paint, replace window panes, install new electrical and plumbing fixtures, and tile the floors.
The barracks will serve as housing for U.S. military training detachments while they are located in Douala to instruct Cameroon's Brigade Intervention Rapide boat units. After the training of these counterpiracy forces is complete, the structure will be turned over to the Cameroonian navy, who will use it as enlisted living quarters.
"I truly believe this project is key in developing the skillsets for the younger troops," said Builder 2nd Class Eugene Passeri, the project supervisor. "With the experience gained in this project, the builders, construction electricians, and utilitiesmen will be able to lead in the future."
NMCB 3 is one of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command's warfighting support elements, providing host nation construction operations and security in support of overseas contingency operations.
