UK probes second 'friendly fire' death in Afghanistan
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
London, Dec 23, IRNA -- A second British soldier has died after being wounded in a suspected "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said.
The latest death on Tuesday from wounds sustained in a gun battle near Sangin in Helmand province comes after a military policeman was killed in a suspected ‘friendly fire’ incident also near Sangin on Sunday.
It is not known if the investigations of the two deaths are connected and may not be clear until inquests are eventually held in the UK. The MoD said no firm conclusions would be drawn until after the men's inquests.
The fatalities raises the number of British troops so far killed this year to 105, more than double of the 51 deaths in 2008.
It takes the total number of British death to 242 since the overthrow of the Taliban regime eight years ago.
