Panhard, a leading partner of Hägglunds VHM

Marolles – 22 December 2009

BAE Systems has won a contract awarded by the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) for 53 BvS10 MkII vehicles, a new and improved version of the all-terrain vehicle already in service in the Dutch and British armed forces. With the conditional phases, this order could amount to 129 vehicles.

The contract concerns three variants of the vehicle –troop carrier, command post and logistics – and a very exhaustive set of services and supplies for Maintenance in Operational Condition (MCO).

The BvS10 MkII will be specifically adapted by Panhard to suit the requirements of the French army. The vehicles will be sent to the Marolles en Hurepoix plant where they will be transformed by Panhard to receive mission kits. Three versions of the VHM will be deployed (infantry, command post and logistics) but the variety of the weapon systems implemented by infantry soldiers has to be taken into account (Eryx or Milan missiles, 81 mm mortar, AT4CS rocket launchers), as does the complementarity of the information systems needed for coordination on the battle field (Atlas gun system, SITEL, etc.). “With Panhard’s involvement, vehicles that are very adapted to the army’s operational requirements will be available”, explains Christian Mons, the Chief Executive Officer of Panhard.

Panhard has a great deal of experience in this field because the company, based in the department of Essonne (91), already integrates these weapons and communication systems into its own vehicles (VBL, PVP or VPS) in service in the Army. Finally, Panhard will coordinate the 129 VHM support elements, in the fields of training for maintenance staff, the supply of spare parts and technical documentation. It should be noted that the VHM can be used in different theatres of operations, whether they be in mountainous areas or in swampy rain forests.
