NATO oil tankers torched, drivers kidnapped
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad,Dec 16 ,IRNA -- Suspected militants Tuesday torched two tankers, carrying oil for NATO troops in Afghanistan, in southwestern Pakistan, officials said.
The attackers kidnapped four drivers and cleaners of the tankers from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, owners of the tankers said.
One tanker was completely gutted and the second badly damaged, they said.
No group claimed responsibility but Pakistani and Afghan Taliban had warned Pakistani drivers in the past not to carry oil and goods for NATO forces.
The police registered case against unknown people but have not arrested anyone.
Owners of the affected tankers alleged that the government had assured security but did not take appropriate security measures.
Oil and other items are transported to NATO forces in Afghanistan through Balochistan and North West Frontier Province.
Suspected militants regularly target NATO trucks and oil tankers and at least 15 attacks have been carried out on tankers only in Balochistan this year.
The U.S. has struck a deal with Russia for alternate route for NATO supplies after attacks were stepped up on trucks in Pakistan.
