CENTCOM chief briefs Pakistani PM on Afghan policy

Islamabad, Dec 15 ,IRNA -- US Centcom Commander, General David Petraeus Saturday briefed Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani about contours of new Afghan Policy announced by President Barack Obama recently, officials said.
The CENTCOM chief took the government of Pakistan into confidence about the policy under which U.S will send some 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, a statement from the Prime Minister office said.
The Prime Minister welcomed President Obama’s affirmation of partnership between the two countries built on a foundation of mutual interest, mutual respect and mutual trust.
He said that Pakistan and the US share the common strategic objectives for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan as well as combating terrorism.
The Prime Minister said that the Government of Pakistan is fully committed to a long-term strategic partnership with US and would continue to engage with the US and international community in developing a pragmatic and effective approach to address the issues that have imperiled security and stability in the region.
During the meeting Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani assisted the Prime Minister.
