BAE Systems response to UK MOD Defence Budget Review

15 Dec 2009 | Ref. 246/2009

BAE Systems recognises the pressures on the UK’s defence budget and has anticipated changes as a result of this year's planning round.

The Company is pleased the UK Government has today reaffirmed its commitment to the Queen Elizabeth class carriers. It also welcomes the Government's recognition that Typhoon and F-35 will provide the backbone capability for the RAF in the future, and looks forward to supporting that crucial capability.

BAE Systems acknowledges the Government's decision to reduce Tornado and Harrier numbers and will work with it to ensure that the capability of both aircraft is sustained until the end of their service life.

The first production Nimrod MRA4 has already flown and the Company will ensure that this new capability is ready to enter service as soon as the Government requires it.

BAE Systems will now work through the detail of today’s Ministerial announcement to ensure it can continue to deliver on its commitments to the UK MoD, including long term commitments to the carrier, Typhoon and Astute programmes.
