CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (NNS) -- Equipment operators from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3's Horn of Africa (HOA) Detachment (DET) conducted advanced vehicle training at Camp Lemonnier Nov. 27-Dec. 9.

The two-week course was designed to improve and test the skills of the equipment operators assigned to DET HOA, thus enhancing operational capability and safety.

Chief Equipment Operator (SCW/FMF) Pamela Lee and Equipment Operator 1st Class (SCW) Cody Pauxtis, who both hold commercial drivers licenses, designed the course to simulate the Department of Motor Vehicles commercial license exam.

"We set up training lanes to perform reverse maneuvering, right turns, and straight line backing, all of which would be tested on the commercial license exam," said Lee.

The course also consisted of loading ramp backing procedures, equipment loading and off-loading and tie-down procedures.

"These tests were designed to challenge the operator's ability to safely react behind the wheel of a tractor trailer at a moment's notice," said Lee.

The training provided equipment operators valuable experience that will greatly benefit them, not only in their careers as Seabees, but also in the civilian world.

NMCB 3 is one of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command's warfighting support elements, providing host nation construction operations and security in support of overseas contingency operations.
