MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- Registration is underway as the Navy Counselor Association (NCA) prepares to hold its 22nd Annual Professional Development and Training Symposium June 27 – July 1 in Norfolk.

"The Navy Counselor Association is dedicated to the continued support of education and professional development of career counselors, command master chiefs, Navy recruiters, recruit division commanders, and all other personnel who aid in the professional development of Sailors past and present," said Master Chief Navy Counselor (SW/AW/IUSS) Cynthia L. Reynolds, NCA president.

The NCA's annual symposium provides a forum where Navy leadership can communicate directly to the largest gathering of the Navy counselor (NC) and career counselor community.

The symposium has grown over the years into an extension of the career counselor training pipeline, according to Reynolds. Career counselors can come for training on career development programs and policies that are centered on improving retention, and lowering attrition in both the active and Reserve components of the Navy.

"Everyone who attends can expect to receive training on the Navy's retention policies, policy changes, program updates, and best practices. Participants get face-to-face contact with the program subject matter experts and the chance to make recommendations to make the programs we use more efficient and effective," said Reynolds.

This year's theme is "America's Navy: A Global Force for Good." Training topics include Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, the latest changes in enlisted detailing policies and Career Management System-Interactive Detailing, Perform to Serve, Fleet Ride and conducting and documenting career development boards for Sailors.

More details and registration information are available in NAVADMIN 345/09 posted in the message section at www.npc.navy.mil.
