India, France discuss defence cooperation

New Delhi, Dec 5, IRNA -- India and France discussed issues relating to the security situation in South Asia and global security issues.
The two sides agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership and open new areas of military cooperation and discussed equipment programmes for the Indian armed forces, during a meeting between visiting Defence Minister of France Herve Morin and his Indian counterpart, A K Antony in New Delhi.

Both the Defence Ministers discussed a number of issues relating to the security situation in South Asia and global security issues. Various matters pertaining to India-French bilateral defence cooperation were discussed in the backdrop of the expected visit of French President Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy to India early next year.

Later on, Morin while talking to reporters said that he has delivered a letter from French President Nicolas Sarkozy to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on all the issues related to defence cooperation between the two countries.
