India, Bangladesh finalise three treaties

New Delhi, Dec 2, IRNA - India and Bangladesh have finalised three treaties including the one on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, after three days of parleys in New Delhi.

The other two agreements are on mutual assistance in criminal matters and on combating International Terrorism, Organised Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

The agreements are expected to be signed during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the 18th of this month.

The two sides also decided to develop mechanisms to speed-up the process of verification and nationality status of prisoners lodged in jails of either country, particularly those who have completed their sentence, to enable their early repatriation.

They also resolved to take immediate action on the basis of real time and actionable information and agreed to redouble efforts to locate the persons against whom Red Corner Notices have been issued in either of the two countries.

The two countries have also reaffirmed their commitment not to allow their territories to be used for activities inimical to each other's interests.
This was stated by Home Secretary Mr. G.K.Pillai and his Bangladesh counterpart Mr. Abdus Sobhan Sikder after the conclusion of their talks held in New Delhi.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen there bilateral arrangement to fight terrorism and extremism in all its manifestation.

While expressing concern over smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes, India sought the cooperation of Bangladesh for preventing such activities.
They have also agreed to enhance cooperation in capacity building in Police and other law enforcement agencies.

The two countries agreed to expedite the settlement of land boundary issues and the matter would be discussed in the next meeting of the Joint Border Working Group.

The other areas in which the two countries decided to coordinate include action against those involved in the trafficking of women and children along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
